Endless Love
(aka Autumn’s Tale) narrated the lives of Yin Junxi and Yin
Enxi. They were raised as siblings for 14 years. Then, they led a happy
and peaceful life. Junxi loved his sister, Enxi, and would protect her.
After 14 years, the Yin couple realised that Enxi was not their biological
daughter. Two baby girls were switched accidentally in the hospital, leading
to identity mix-up. Enxi returned to her biological mother. Meanwhile,
Xinai (the biological sister of Junxi) was reunited with the Yin family.
The Yin family left for the States. Enxi was raised in Korea.
After 9 years of separation, Junxi returned to Korea as an established
artist. He visited the village where Enxi and he were raised. However,
he did not manage to find Enxi. The scenery remained, but the person he
missed was nowhere in sight. In the process, he met up with best friend,
Taixi, in a hotel. Taixi is the illegitimate son of the hotel owner.
Enxi, unknowing to Junxi, worked at the same hotel Taixi was staying in.
Taixi met Enxi at the hotel. They have some interesting exchanges. Taixi
was witty while Enxi was adorable. Gradually, Taixi fell in love with
Enxi.
After Junxi was engaged to Youmei, he shifted to an art workshop near
the beach where Enxi and he frequented while young. Junxi chose Youmei
because Youmei and Enxi shared the same wish - to become a tree in the
next life.
While sightseeing with his senior, Junxi saw Enxi (although unsure that's
her), he gave chase but lost her. He searched frantically for the photos
his senior has taken, only hoping to find Enxi's picture. Knowing Enxi
may be in the vicinity, he stayed with Taixi in the hotel, in order to
have more time to find Enxi. Taixi left the room to Junxi while he visited
his mother.
In the searching period for Enxi, Junxi was not aware that Enxi was the
one who made his room, prepared his pajamas, charged his handphone ...
He spoke to Enxi on the phone twice. Both of them were surprised by the
similarity of the last 4 digits of their handphone and pager number, which
happened to be Junxi's birth date, 15th of February (0215). At that moment,
they were not aware that they were actually conversing with the person
they missed most in their life.
One day, Junxi brought Youmei to the beach. They met Taixi there. Enxi
saw Junxi sketching on the sand and knew that was Junxi instantly. She
ran up and embraced him from behind. Tears rolled down both their cheeks,
leaving Youmei and Taixi in astonishment.
Enxi was forced to leave home due to the unreasonable demands from her
hooligan brother. She has nowhere to go except to approach and stay with
Junxi. Junxi welcomed Enxi. Junxi was glad to have the chance to see Enxi
again, to talk to her, to see her sleep, to bid her "good night",
...
Junxi was heartbroken after he knew Enxi was being bullied by her biological
brother. Junxi warned him not to beat Enxi again. At night, he will run
home just to say "good night" to Enxi.
Junxi and Enxi visited their old home and childhood haunts. There, Junxi
"piggy-backed" Enxi home, as in the past. Enxi confessed that
Junxi will be the only one to "piggy-back" her.
Enxi met Youmei and Xinai. On grounds of Xinai's hurtful words, she decided
to leave Junxi for good. She cooked a sumptuous dinner for Junxi and presented
their memory cups at dinner. She looked longingly at the way Junxi had
his dinner. Junxi never realized that that could be their last dinner
together. Enxi will have left that night if Junxi had not stopped her.
Junxi embraced her and said, "Although we are not real siblings,
we'll still be together. We must be together. Do not leave. Stay. Do not
leave." Enxi stayed.
Junxi decided to break-up with Youmei. He confessed to Enxi that he has
found the girl of his dreams.
Youmei realized that Junxi has kept sketches of Enxi in his folder. Taixi
too realized that Enxi liked Junxi. Both Youmei and Taixi asked Junxi
and Enxi for their agreement in marriage respectively.
Youmei begged Enxi to give up Junxi, for her sake. The kind Enxi could
not bear to hurt Youmei and Taixi. Thus, she tried to accept Taixi's affection.
Junxi was taken in. He was drunk in front of Taixi. He told Taixi some
of his childhood memories with Enxi to Taixi.
Despite the frequent gatherings with Youmei and Taixi respectively, Junxi
and Enxi could not squeeze each other out of their minds. Once, Junxi
and Enxi went for an escapade in a mountain chalet. They told themselves
to treat each other as siblings. They intended to. At the chalet, they
played childhood games, cooked, ate and talked. They were trapped at the
chalet overnight, due to the heavy rain. They called their "prospective
partners" respectively to inform about their whereabouts. Then, Youmei
and Taixi confirmed that Junxi and Enxi actually loved each other.
Xinai found and read the Enxi’s letter to Junxi. There, Enxi confessed
that although her name was changed, her feelings for Junxi would never
alter. Enxi love Junxi. Xinai showed the letter to their parents. There,
Junxi admitted his feelings for Enxi in front of their parents, Taixi
and Youmei.
Enxi and Junxi sat outside the house. Junxi held Enxi’s hand. They
ran after and boarded the bus which ferried them away from objections.
There, they took the back seats. Junxi leaned on Enxi’s shoulder.
Enxi said, "We may be punished" Junxi replied, "Don’t
worry. I shall bear all the punishment. I shall bear the punishment alone."
Bless and happiness were reflected on their faces when they were finally
able to hold each other's hand. They switched off their handphone and
pager. There, even instant noodles taste were tasty cuisines. They spent
some magical days at a charming little farm/ranch. Junxi realised that
Enxi has craved their names on her tree many years ago. Enxi's first love
was Junxi. He was touched.
Enxi explained her wish - to be a tree in her next life. As a tree, she
would not be uprooted and replanted elsewhere. She would be able to love
one person in her life. Regardless of wealth or illness, she'll only love
that one person. She was referring to Junxi.
They celebrated Enxi's birthday at the farm. Junxi gave Enxi an engagement
ring. Enxi accepted Junxi's marriage proposal.
Taixi found and brought them back to reality. Youmei could not accept
Junxi/Enxi's proposed marriage plans and attempted suicide. Junxi and
Enxi could not bear Youmei's pending suicide and went separate ways. They
were both heartbroken as a result. They missed each other terribly but
could neither see nor hold each other. Their genuine feelings were reserved
for each other only.
Enxi realised that she has leukemia. She began to have fainting spells,
her body weakened and her looks started to fade. Taixi got to know about
her medical condition and begged her to accept his help. He wanted her
to get well, and to tell him that her love was not him. Enxi appreciated
and accepted his help. She was admitted into a hospital. During the painful
tests, Enxi's mind was filled with Junxi. She was holding on to her engagement
ring. Taixi was right outside the ward, feeling even more tortured than
Enxi. He can’t sit, can’t stand, he just paced. In front of
Enxi, he gave her reassuring pieces and smiles. At the same time, Junxi
was missing Enxi at the farm.
Enxi and Taixi have established a sincere friendship. Taixi loved and
respected Enxi, even on the knowledge that Enxi loved only Junxi.
Enxi wore the ring Junxi gave and went back to the charming farm. She
wished to bid Junxi goodbye there, as he'll be leaving for the States
with Youmei shortly. Coincidentally, Enxi met Junxi at the farm. They
spent some precious time at the farm. Enxi confessed her love for Junxi
there. By the next sunrise, Enxi has left the farm.
Although everyone knew about Enxi's illness then, no one informed Junxi.
Junxi only knew the truth when Enxi was on the verge of death. He dashed
to the hospital but Enxi has already fallen into a coma. The doctor was
not optimistic about Enxi's condition. Junxi dared not stay by Enxi's
side. He revealed to Taixi that he was afraid that if Enxi knew of Junxi's
presence, she would be contented and thus lose the will to live.
In the end, Junxi arrived at the hospital, held her hand and spoke to
her. A miracle occurred! Enxi woke up the following morning. Junxi brought
her back to his art workshop by the beach. They spent the rest of her
days there. Taixi saw Junxi and Enxi at the beach from afar. Taixi smiled.
He is happy for Enxi. Then, Enxi's happiness was reflected in his charming
eyes. He was contented.
Even though its painful for Junxi to witness Enxi being tortured by an
incurable disease, to see her face turn paler gradually, ... he persisted
and took good care of her. He prepared and ate the same kind of tasteless
food with her. They played games, visited the beach, made plans for tomorrow
... Junxi told Enxi, "I love you." Both Junxi and Enxi have
loved each other since young. The thoughts of each other never left one
another's minds since. The thoughts of one another gave each other strength,
the thoughts of one another gave each other strength and kept each other
going ...
Taixi visited Enxi at Junxi's art workshop one day. He understood from
Junxi that Enxi's condition has actually deteriorated. It pained him.
On the way home, he made a brief stop at the church. He prayed to god
to grant Junxi/Enxi more time. He gave up Enxi because he was aware Enxi's
only love was Junxi, and will always be. He begged for Enxi's well being.
There, he sobbed, clutching to his heart, with pain written all over his
face.
Enxi's condition continued to worsen by the day. They had dinner with
their parents and Taixi. Subsequently, she forced Junxi to promise her
that he'll stay alive, even after her death.
Junxi and Enxi, in groom/bride wear, exchanged their marriage vows under
a lighted tree, just outside the workshop. They laughed and joked. They
looked so blessed and beyond the mortal world.
Enxi died when Junxi was "piggy-backing" her the following evening
at the beach. He was thrown into deep sadness. He continued the walk down
the beach, as if Enxi was still with him. Tears rolled, he cried repeatedly,
"Enxi, I love you, love you ..."
Junxi entrusted Taixi with the task of scattering Enxi's ashes into the
sea. Meanwhile, Junxi drove to the little village where Enxi and he were
raised in. Junxi hoped he could send Enxi off, in a place where they had
shared the most beautiful memories. Just outside the school, he did not
avoid the oncoming truck. Junxi was killed upon impact. He wore a most
serene smile on his face. Salient parts of his short life flashed through
his mind. His life was played backwards … Junxi met Enxi, at the
beach where they parted ... together, they walked towards "Endless
Love" ...
[Epilogue]
Back to the tunnel where they entered the childhood village, Enxi’s
last words were echoed in the air, "Brother, I pardon your sins …"
